Having lived with Golden Retrievers for many years, we acquired our first Chesapeake Bay Retriever in 1999 when we made our roots back home in the Lake District, Cumbria.
We had spent a great deal of time researching the breed and meeting owners & breeders at Gundog events. We were struck by the truly dual-purpose nature of the breed. Chesapeakes make loyal companions, enthusiastic to venture out in any weather. Their intelligence and strength of mind rivals any other breed of Gundog and so are not for the novice handler. However, with early and continued socialisation and firm training a strong bond develops. Our dogs are as happy spending a day wildfowling as they are in the show ring or simply being at home with us.
We now own 4 adult Chesapeakes. Puppies are occasionally available to approved homes.
